Posted on Jul 14th, 2007 by FoodMagnetism : The Magnetic Dietician FoodMagnetism
Weight this morning 174.6

Morning walk - 45 minutes

Breakfast - Oatmeal, sliced banana, blueberries, a little skim milk.

Those who have read the Magnetic Diet will know that meditation is a core concept. Those who have a lot of experience with meditation will wonder. Why all this concern about the body?

Here's the thing. If we are meditating every day, then we know that the body is not the reality. The soul is the reality. Our individual soul is just a wave in the ocean that is God. What does this have to do with weight loss and health management?

Our purpose on this earth is to work out the Karma of our past actions and desires. This only leads to more Karma which then just brings us back again. We can escape the revolving door by merging our wave into the ocean, but to do that requires the awakening of a dormant energy. To awaken that energy requires a lot of work, some of which is spiritual, some of which is mental, and some of which is physical. The physical portion is mainly to create the foundation on which the spiritual and the mental portion can be built. The mental and the spiritual portion are tied closely together. The mental aspect is concentration which leads to the core spiritual aspect which is meditation. The physical is necessary so that one can sit still in a position long enough to concentrate and meditate.

The asanas or physical postures of yoga, as a matter of fact the entire physical and aspect of yoga that includes body purification techniques, was developed so that the aspirant could get his or her body into shape to meditate for long hours. So there you have it, good physical conditioning is a benefit to spiritual aspirations.

Its Friday the 13th and today I will be working out abs and shoulders in the gym.

Other areas of interest. The stock market is going catabolic. All participants should be trailing stops closely at this point but also aware that it can explode with another couple of 200, 300, and even 400 point days in the Dow to reach the primary projection of 15,000. The S&P is within a pistol shot of its primary projection of 1555. Good luck.

Snacks - 1 snack sized bag of baby carrots - 80 calories, 1 apple - 100 calories

Lunch - Brown rice with lean ground turkey and pasta sauce and spinach. Another name for the magnetic diet is the Popeye diet, because we put spinach in almost everything. If you want to know why check, this link to the book.

Are you drinking enough water? If you're not, forget about it, you will never achieve your weight loss goals if you are not drinking enough water. How much is enough? I myself drink at least a gallon a day.

Workout - Since I took Monday off to pick up my Daughter from the airport, today I caught up with my workouts by combining both by ab and shoulder workouts into one. Here is what it looked like:

Started off with Leg raises which I did with a 30 pound dubell between by feet. 6-10 reps after which I then did the shoulder press machine with the following numbers ( 8 x 110, 7 x 120, 6 x 130). Next I did Leg raises with ankle weights combined with Dumbell press with 35 pound dumbells 3 sets 8-10 reps. Next I did the rope pulldown pulley crunch and combined that with upright row both 8-10 reps with 150 pounds. After that I did hanging leg raises and combined that with shoulder pulley cable lateral raises. After that I did swiss ball crunches and after that I did those leg lift things where you lie on your back and sing your legs from one side to the other. Phew.

Dinner - Brown rice, lean ground turkey, pasta sauce and spinach - 400 calories.

Fat

Posted on Jul 14th, 2007 by FoodMagnetism : The Magnetic Dietician FoodMagnetism

Can you feel me?  Jigglin underneath your skin
Doesn't matter what pill you take I will always win.
I'm the reason that you want to lose weight
I'm the tissue you love to hate.
Look you aint got to be so mean
Just got to move a little more if you wanna be lean
You gotta crack a sweat cause aint no leisurley stroll
Gonna get rid of this jelly roll

Can you see me? Hangin over your belt  - ooh wee
I got you standin in line for lap band surgery
Join a gym read a book
Don't eat fast food, learn to cook
And plan your meals in advance
You better exercise, have sex or dance
You gotta walk a little faster than that
If you want to get rid of this thing called fat.

Shoes make the man

Posted on Jul 15th, 2007 by FoodMagnetism : The Magnetic Dietician FoodMagnetism
I started to run into problems with my feet running track in high school. I was a middle distance runner and ran the 1/2 mile, and the mile. Like all kids I was really excited about the prospect of a new pair of specialty shoes and couldn't wait to put on the spikes that I would be wearing on the track. Unfortunately for me I had flat feet and didn't know it which resulted foot pain and major blisters in the area of where my arch should have been.

After high school, knowing full well that I had flat feet, I was able to pass the medical exam and join the Marines. I was in the infantry in the Marines and the standard issue black boot made me and my flat feet miserable. Try a 20 mile force march with full gear in those boots with flat feet, it isn’t pretty.

Almost 20 years later and my feet have only got worse, now I'm dealing with Planar Fasciitis which gives me an excruciating pain in my left heel and arch. Its worse in the morning and after I've been sitting for a few hours and has been steadily bothering me for about 6 months now. It goes away once you start walking for a few minutes but hurts very much the next day after running, so I haven't been running at all and limit my aerobic activity to walking only.

I'll wear shoes for years until they're talking if you know what I mean. My wife on the other hand likes to change hers out before they start coming apart. A couple of days ago my wife and I went down to Fleet Feet in Santa Rosa to purchase some new shoes. The guy did a good job with the sales process and I walked out with a pair of the Nike Air Equalons, $130. Why am I telling you all this? For the last 3 days I have been running again and while there is a little pain it is nothing compared to what I would have expected.

Get yourself a good pair of shoes, your feet will thank you for it.

The clouds

Posted on Jul 17th, 2007 by FoodMagnetism : The Magnetic Dietician FoodMagnetism
After my morning walk I took notice of the clouds.  I only stopped for a moment to stare at the sky, but the absolute beauty of the clouds made that moment............perfect.

Today I will strive to notice the perfection of each moment.

The Guru Comes To Town.

Posted on Jul 27th, 2007 by FoodMagnetism : The Magnetic Dietician FoodMagnetism
For the past several weeks I have traded my morning meditation for a brisk walk in an attempt to strip the a few more pounds of fat from my body.  When the awareness was there I also used the walk as an opportunity to observe the mind in action.  I can tell you that this can not replace seated meditation, at least at my level, as there are too many opportunities for distraction.  So moving forward I am making a commitment to wake up earlier for meditation prior to the walk.  A timely commitment, as my meditation teacher, has arrived from India for his annual summer tour of the west coast. I was introduced to Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath two years ago and initiated into Kriya Yoga by him.  Of him I will say this, if you have an opportunity to be in his presence, take it.  He is the real deal. Here is a taste.

Meditation and Yoga ancient origins - Yogiraj Siddhanath
